About The Members Club

An introduction to The Members Club at Clays Golf.

The Members’ Club is run by a Council that meets once a month. Along with a number of committees, they take care of the day-to-day running of The Members’ Club and help make sure everything runs smoothly for our members, such as competitions, handicapping and scoial events.

The Council includes the Club Captain, Lady Captain, Vice Captain, President, Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer, Seniors Captain, Handicap Secretary, Competition Secretary, Juniors Organiser, and a representative from the Clays Management Team. This group helps make decisions that reflect the needs and interests of all areas of the club.

If you’re ever curious about what’s been discussed, the minutes from each meeting are available to read in the clubhouse foyer.

Club Sections

Where community meets competition and friendships flourish, Clays Golf offers club membership alongside Men’s, Ladies’, and Seniors’ sections, each running their own competitions on set days. This setup provides events tailored to each group while fostering strong camaraderie. Our calendar features a mix of competitive and social events, with qualifying and non-qualifying formats for all abilities. Members can also enter prestigious honours board knockout competitions, arranged between competitors—offering flexibility and the chance to secure a lasting place in the club’s history.

Handicap Application

Track your progress, compete, and connect with others through your official WHS handicap. All Clays Golf members, regardless of membership category, can apply for one—perfect for improving your game and joining competitions. Whether applying for your first handicap or renewing, a small annual fee covers the Clays Golf Members Club levy and your affiliation with Wales Golf and the Denbighshire Golfing Union. These affiliations connect you to the wider golfing community and help support the sport locally and nationally.

Club Competitions

Year-round competitions cater to every golfer, from casual players to seasoned competitors. From April to September, we host Club and Honours Board Knockout Competitions, while October to March brings friendly “winter” events, some non-qualifying for relaxed play. Formats include Strokeplay, Stableford, Pairs, Mixed, and Team games, ensuring something for all styles and abilities. Whether chasing Honours Board glory or enjoying social rounds, there’s always an event to join. Members can view schedules anytime via the Intelligent Golf app or members’ website.

Social Events

Clays Golf hosts year-round social events, bringing members together for fun, food, and friendship off the course. Details are shared on reception notice boards, around the clubhouse, in the Captain’s Monthly Newsletter, and via our website and Facebook page. Popular events include Themed Food Nights, Quiz Nights, Cheese & Wine Evenings, Race Night, the Christmas Party, and the Captains’ Dinner. Some require advance registration, while others are open to walk-ins. Friends and family are always welcome—bring guests and enjoy the experience together.

Meetings & AGM

Clays Golf values transparency, holding monthly Club Council meetings on the second Tuesday and an Annual General Meeting (AGM) before the end of March. The AGM covers electing Officers and Council, presenting accounts, sharing reports, and addressing any notified business. It also marks the handover from the retiring to the incoming Club Captain. Notice of the AGM is displayed in the clubhouse foyer at least four weeks in advance, with the agenda available at least two weeks before the meeting for members.
